The author of more than a dozen books, Lauren Starkey specializes in the subject of writing, something she is passionate about. Her books, online course, and workshops bring a simple message to her audience: everyone has the ability to improve his or her writing. “Good writing doesn’t aim to impress, it aims to share. Whether you’re crafting a business email, a personal essay, or a non-fiction book, the goal is the same: you are imparting your knowledge, your ideas, or your experiences to your audience through the written word. Your most important tool is the quality of your message, but also critical to the process are your vocabulary, your ability to understand the needs of your audience, and your command of the conventions of the language. These tools may be learned or improved upon through instruction and practice.” Lauren holds BA and MA degrees in English from Trinity College, Hartford, and Rutgers University. She began her editing career with the Oxford English Dictionary, where she worked for eight years as assistant to the Director of the American Reading Program. Lauren lives in Essex Vermont with her husband, three children, and a pug. She is on the Board of Directors of the Green Mountain Montessori School, and is President of the St. Andrew’s Highland Dancers of Vermont. |
Recent NewsSAT Bootcamps will be held at Essex and South Burlington High Schools in the fall. Check back for more information.
