SAT BootcampFour hours to a higher score! Lauren and partner Karen Needler walk students through the entire SAT, explaining strategies for each section, including how best to use the time allotted and what the directions really mean. SAT Bootcamp will reduce test anxiety through familiarization and practice, and increase test-taking confidence by teaching proven strategies for the Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing Sections. Students will also come away with a clear idea of the sections on which they need to focus study. Write Your Way into CollegeFor high school juniors and seniors, this two hour interactive seminar covers the college application and SAT essays. You’ll learn what admissions departments are looking for, and how to write an essay that will make your application stand out. Topics include anatomy of an essay, subjects to avoid, the most common grammar and mechanics mistakes, and the five Common Application topics with best and worst approaches. The SAT section explains how to write a polished rough draft in 25 minutes. From using each minute to your best advantage, reading and understanding the essay prompt, organizing and outlining, and coming up with attention grabbing introductions, you’ll learn how to approach this essay with a plan for success. Better Business WritingThis workshop can be tailored to suit the specific needs of a company or group. Typical subjects include better emailing, writing with clarity and conciseness, avoiding the most common grammar and mechanics errors, and the importance of understanding audience. Interactive exercises give participants a chance to practice what they’re learning and maximize retention. Better Writing for StudentsAnother workshop that can be tailored to suit specific needs, Better Writing for Students is for high school and college populations. It covers the basics that can trip up student writers, from subject-verb agreement to remembering the difference between such commonly confused words as “among” and “between.” The workshop then continues with more advanced topics such as understanding audience, the importance of planning and organization, and development of ideas.
